Hello there!

Welcome to casual conservationist! I’m a final year biology undergraduate at Imperial College London, who opted mainly to study ecology and global change based courses.  My initial love of animals and plants, which lead me to choose to study biology developed over my course into a fascination with the complex relationship between human beings and our natural environment, which has changed drastically over the past few hundred years. We have harnessed the power of science and technology to maximise the benefits of natural resources available, but at a cost to other plants and animals. As we push towards a world population of 9 billion, these resources are rapidly running out, combined with global warming, and the intensity of the last century of development, we need to find a way to recreate what we have lost, and fast! This is why conservation is an increasingly important field in terms of restoring what we have destroyed and in trying to build a sustainable future – it’s time to conserve!

If you’re interested in development and ideas behind conservation biology, hopefully you will find something interesting to read about here! No background knowledge necessary. Hopefully this blog will especially appeal to A-level / undergraduate students, but also maybe inspire people with a more general interest in biology to find out more about conservation.
